HSE University Welcomes Delegation from National Economics University, Hanoi
On July 2 — 3, HSE University hosted a delegation from the National Economics University (Hanoi, Vietnam) in Moscow and St. Petersburg. HSE and NEU signed a cooperation agreement, which covers a range of areas, including the development of academic exchange programmes for students and staff, joint research projects, as well as joint cultural and recruiting events.
The high delegation, headed by the National Economics University President, Professor Tran Tho Dat, comprised Director of Research, Associate Professor To Trung Thanh, Head of Department of Finance, Associate Professor Pham Bich Chi, Dean of School of Trade and International Economics, Associate Professor Ta Van Loi, and Dean of Faculty of Marketing, Associate Professor Vu Huy Thong.
National Economics University (NEU) was established in 1956 and since 1989 has fulfilled three main tasks as set by the government, including acting as a government consultant on macro-economic policy, providing high quality undergraduate and postgraduate business education, and training for managers of both state and private sectors. NEU is one of the top economics and business institutions and is considered a prestigious center for economic research and consulting in Vietnam. The current Prime Minister of Vietnam is an NEU graduate.
At the meeting in Moscow, HSE Vice Rector, Ivan Prostakov, emphasized that the university is expanding cooperation with South East Asia and is interested in a mutually beneficial partnership with NEU.
NEU President, Dr. Tran Tho Dat, expressed their interest in establishing cooperation with HSE, and pointed out that the two universities will no doubt find ways to build relationships in various areas, not only in the field of economics. Currently, the university is one of the strongest universities in Vietnam in fields such as Economics, Public Management, and Business Administration.
Dr. Tran Tho Dat also highlighted that research is one of the university’s major activities and invited HSE colleagues to attend the 1st International Conference on Contemporary Issues in Economics, Management and Business which will be held jointly by NEU, the Australian National University (Australia), Kangwon National University (Korea), and University of Szczecin (Poland) in November.
In return, HSE Vice Rector invited professors from the National Economics University to participate in HSE International Partners’ Week, which will take place from 15th till 19th of October.
Colleagues from across HSE took part in the meeting discussions, including Nikolay Filinov and Zokirzhon Saidov from the Faculty of Business and Management, Vasily Solodkov from the Banking Institute, Vladimir Zuev from the Institute of Trade Policy, Alexandra Sizova from the School of Asian Studies, Oxana Budjko from the Faculty of Economic Sciences, and Oksana Chernenko from the Office for Educational Innovations and Short-Term International Programmes, as well as the Head of International Cooperation Office, Marina Batalina, Director of International Admissions, Alexander Deev and the manager of International Student Recruitment Centre, Alina Ageeva. Participants suggested further steps for cooperation with NEU during the discussions.
The meeting on July 2 culminated with the ceremonious signing of the cooperation agreement. It covers a range of areas, including the development of academic exchange programmes for students, faculty staff, administrative and management staff; development and implementation of joint educational and research programmes/projects and their components; organization and hosting of joint educational, scientific, cultural events along with activities aimed at marketing and promotion of HSE programmes at NEU and other recruiting events.
Prior to the official signing ceremony, the NEU delegation also met Vietnamese students and enjoyed a campus tour in Moscow. The partners expressed their excitement about being in Russia at the time of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
NEU delegation continued cooperation meetings at HSE St. Petersburg campus on July 3. HSE University and NEU staff are currently developing an action plan based on the joint activities discussed over the two days.
Representatives from HSE will visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this October to take part in an education fair, and will also hold open lectures and workshops at its partner universities, including NEU.
The National Economics University in Hanoi is the third Vietnamese university to sign a cooperation agreement with HSE. A delegation from HSE visited Vietnam for the first time in 2016. Vietnam citizens can now apply to HSE at the Rossotrusnichestvo branch in Hanoi as a result of these successful negotiations.
