How to Succeed,’ organised by the expert club of the Eastern Perspective programme at the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs.

Large Language Models No Longer Require Powerful Servers
Scientists from Yandex, HSE University, MIT, KAUST, and ISTA have made a breakthrough in optimising LLMs. Yandex Research, in collaboration with leading science and technology universities, has developed a method for rapidly compressing large language models (LLMs) without compromising quality. Now, a smartphone or laptop is enough to work with LLMs—there's no need for expensive servers or high-powered GPUs.

Roundtable on Russia–China Cooperation in Antimonopoly Policy Held at HSE University
HSE University hosted a roundtable titled ‘New Challenges for Antitrust Regulation: The Chinese Perspective.’ The event was organised by the International BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre (BRICS Centre). Special guests included Chinese colleagues from the Competition Policy and Assessment Centre (CPAC) of the State Administration for Market Regulation of the People’s Republic of China (SAMR). Last year, the BRICS Centre and CPAC SAMR signed an agreement on strategic cooperation.

‘Each Day Here Was a Discovery’: Participants of International Partners' Week on St Petersburg, Science, and New Collaborations
The large-scale international forum gathered representatives from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America in St Petersburg. Apart from the intense business programme with expert discussions, signing of agreements, and creating international collaborations, guests of HSE University–St Petersburg got to know the cultural heritage of the Northern capital—seeing the city from the Neva and visiting the Hermitage, Tsarskoye Selo, and other significant sights.

HSE Scientists Discover Method to Convert CO₂ into Fuel Without Expensive Reagents
Researchers at HSE MIEM, in collaboration with Chinese scientists, have developed a catalyst that efficiently converts CO₂ into formic acid. Thanks to carbon coating, it remains stable in acidic environments and functions with minimal potassium, contrary to previous beliefs that high concentrations were necessary. This could lower the cost of CO₂ processing and simplify its industrial application—eg in producing fuel for environmentally friendly transportation. The study has been published in Nature Communications.

HSE University at SPIEF: Innovations, BRICS, and Healthcare
The St Petersburg International Economic Forum took place on June 18-21, 2025. HSE experts have discussed cooperation between universities, investors, and technology companies in the development of innovations, sharing the best practices in healthcare and drug safety, as well as charity and humanitarian collaboration in the BRICS countries. As a result, several cooperation agreements have been signed during the forum.

'I Have Fallen in Love with Russia—Especially Your Culture'
HSE University hosted a roundtable for international students, organised by the interuniversity student project Adventures of Foreigners in Russia. Participants of the roundtable received helpful tips and guides on adapting to life in Russia, along with practical information and recommendations on getting around, where to go, and what to do in Moscow during their free time. International students also shared their personal stories about why they chose to move to Russia and how their studies at the university are progressing.

Recruitment Campaign 2025: How HSE Attracts Top International Talent
For nearly two decades, HSE University’s international recruitment programmes have brought highly qualified professionals from the global academic job market to Russia—from recent PhD graduates of leading universities to experienced international scholars. On September 1, 2025, the university expects 50 new international faculty and researchers to join its academic team.

Viva o Brasil!: HSE University–St Petersburg Hosts Festival of Brazilian Culture
HSE University–St Petersburg wrapped up International Partners' Week with a lesson on Portuguese, a workshop on the dances of various Brazilian regions, a lecture about one of the most popular Brazilian musicians and a live performance by his devotees. Organised by the Bachelor’s programme in Media Communications, the 'Viva o Brasil!' festival invited students to explore the culture of one of the largest countries in Latin America.

HSE University–St Petersburg's SEM and SCPT Sum Up Results of International Partners' Week
As part of IPW-2025, representatives of the School of Economics and Management (SEM) and the School of Computer Science, Physics and Technology (SCPT) of HSE University–St Petersburg discussed joint educational projects and research initiatives with their partners. International colleagues showed great interest in the expertise of HSE University–St Petersburg and a willingness to develop long-term partnerships.
